Don’t be deceived by fake election prophets – Tobinco boss tells Christians

Mr. Samuel Tobin, Chairman of Tobinco Group of Companies...

Samuel Amoh Tobbin, Chairman of Tobinco Group of Companies, has cautioned Ghanaians to disregard election prophecies by some so-called prophets ahead of the 2016 general elections .
Mr Tobbin, who is also the Presiding Elder of Dr Thomas Wyatt branch of the Church of Pentecost, said actions of these prophets on the upcoming general elections in December are not in line with scripture.
Mr. Samuel Tobin made the comments at 'Atinka FM's Prayerfest' 2016, which was held on Saturday at the premises of the Accra Technical Training College (ATTC) to seek God’s intervention for peace to prevail before, during and after the 2016 general elections.
According to the renowned businessman, many have turned to prophecies, luring Christians into spiritual darkness.
He said Ghanaians should be wary of these fake prophets with their fake prophecies, demanding items on daily basis to solve spiritual matters. Elder Tobbin said such prophecies only trigger confusion and tension in the country.

“Be careful of fake prophets among you who claim they have vision about who will win the upcoming election ; they are only interested in causing chaos in the country. Ghanaians must therefore endeavor to ignore such prophets and their lies," he said.
Elder Tobbin based his sermon on Jeremiah 29:8-9 of the Holy Book, which reads, “Yes, this is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Do not let the prophets and diviners among you deceive you. Do not listen to the dreams you encourage them to have. 9 They are prophesying lies to you in my name. I have not sent them”.
The programme , which was the first of its kind by Atinka FM, was heavily patronized by the station’s loyal listeners.
The Head of Religious Programmes at Atinka FM, Pastor Martin Sermodzie led intercessory prayers for the nation ahead of the December polls.
Atinka FM is a member of the Tobinco Group, which also includes, Atinka TV, Agyenkwa FM in Kumasi, Ahotor FM in Takoradi, Tobinco Pharmaceuticals, Abii National, Priority Insurance, Dor's Events, Entrance Pharmaceuticals and Top Blues.

Mupita’s appointment adds to a growing list of top executives that MTN has hired from the financial services industry.
Incoming group CEO Rob Shuter is a previous head of Nedbank’s retail business. He will take the reins at the mobile group in March next year.
And Stephen van Coller, formerly head of Absa’s Corporate and Investment Bank, took over as MTN’s vice-president of strategy and mergers & acquisitions on 1 October.
MTN said Mupita has “extensive experience in the financial services sector, having had a distinguished career at Old Mutual over the last 16 years”.
“The board of directors of MTN Group, following accepted standard governance practice, is assured that Ralph is suitable to take on this important role and responsibility, considering his background in the highly regulated and well developed risk framework in the financial services sector,” it added.

In his current role as CEO of Old Mutual Emerging Markets, Mupita is responsible for Old Mutual’s operations in emerging markets, excluding Nedbank. He will serve a three-month notice period with his current employer.

Court strikes out NDP's President disqualification suit against EC

National Democratic Party Presidential candidate, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings' suit challenging her disqualification by the Electoral Commission has been thrown out.
An Accra High Court presided over by Justice Goerge Koomson struck out the suit on procedural grounds.
He explained that it is against procedures of court to file a joint application praying for the EC's decision to be reviewed and at the same time demand for the enforcement of the Presidential candidate's fundamental human right to vote and be voted for.
He described the suit as incompetent. The court has also fined the applicants GHC10,000.
Ace Ankomah who is counsel for Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings told the press, he will file a fresh suit by close of the day.
Nana Agyeman Konadu who is former First Lady was disqualified after the Electoral Commission said she failed to collect the 432 signatures of qualified voters, a requirement of Regulation 7 (2) (b) of CI 94.
The EC said one person, Salifu Abdulai, who endorsed her presidential nomination forms, was not a qualified voter because he had illegally registered twice and is therefore on a list of excluded voters.
It meant that although she presented 432 endorsers, in reality she presented 431, hence her disqualification.
Of the three presidential candidates who have been to court to challenge their disqualification, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings is the first to hit a snag.
Presidential candidate of the Progressive People's Party Dr. Paa kwesi Nduom has closed his case and is expecting judgment Friday.
All Peoples' Congress presidential candidate Hassan Ayariga is expecting his counsel to make oral submissions next Tuesday followed by judgement expected next Friday.
The three presidential candidates are among 12 who were disqualified from the December 7 presidential elections.

Ghana Armed Forces investigate claims of Ibrahim Mahama using military escort

The Ghana Armed Forces say they have begun investigations into reports that President John Mahama’s brother, Ibrahim Mahama, has a heavily armed military escort at his beck and call.

There are yet-to-be authenticated photos of Ibrahim Mahama — a wealthy businessman — circulating on popular social media platform, Facebook, that shows the President’s brother moving about with about a dozen, heavily-armed, well-built men in a military in camouflage.

In a brief response to Joy News inquiries about the claim, the Armed Forces said they have already begun probing what would be a clear abuse of the military if the reports prove credible.

“We have seen the pictures, we are investigating to identify the unit of the soldiers and why they were part of the health walk,” the Armed Forces response stated.

Below is an unedited description of the recent event by an eyewitness. Nana Opoku Kyekyeku posted his account on Joy News' Facebook page on October 25, 2016.

*MILITARY BODYGUARDS FOR IBRAHIM MAHAMA, BROTHER OF THE PRESIDENT*

The Military High Command has deployed security men as bodyguards to Ibrahim Mahama, the brother of the President.
Apart from the Military men for Mr. Mahama’s protection, there were also detailed SUVS and Military armoured cars for his use.

At an event in Accra New Town over weekend dubbed, ‘Walk with Ibrahim’, several soldiers armed to the teeth were seen busy around him, providing VVIP protection. Mr Mahama arrived in one of the military armoured cars with two of the Military men, while the others followed in another armoured car.

The men policed NDC supporters on the said walk in their numbers throughout on the streets of Accra New Town, a suburb of Accra, to the surprise of onlookers.

Mr. Mahama was seen clad in NDC Polo Shirt, whilst the crowd of party supporters carried a huge banner with the pictures of the President and his brother on it. It is not clear what position Mr. Ibrahim Mahama is running for in this case.
Residents quizzed the motive of such a move. The Military protecting a private citizen.

The abuse of incumbency by the Mahamas has hit mind blowing levels as the 2016 elections draw closer. The question however is, where does the Ghana Armed Forces stand in all this.

Don’t campaign for Mahama – Former President Jerry John Rawlings

Ex-President Jerry John Rawlings has been challenged to stay away from lending support to the re-election efforts of President John Mahama as the 2016 elections approach.
The Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, dared Ghana’s longest-serving head of state as he addressed party supporters on Saturday October 22 in his constituency.
He called on Mr Rawlings to prove his statesmanship and stand by the principles of probity and accountability he espoused during the two decades he ruled the country by campaigning against the president and governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) flag bearer for the December 7 polls, John Mahama.

According to Mr Annoh-Dompreh, the former president’s previous admission that some 60 per cent of President Mahama’s appointees are corrupt is enough reason for him to stick to his famous principles and denounce the NDC candidate in the upcoming polls.
“I am reminding former President Rawlings of the principles of probity and accountability he drew on to order the execution of some corrupt persons [during his years as Ghana’s military ruler],” he said.
“Today, the former president has admitted that 60 per cent of President Mahama’s appointees are corrupt. Based on this, I challenge the former president to denounce NDC flag bearer John Mahama because of his corrupt appointees and, instead, campaign for Nana Akufo-Addo.”

Economist worries about government's unrelenting borrowing

Dr. Eric Osei-Assibey
A Senior Economics Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Legon, has raised concerns over government's continuous borrowing strategy, warning the economy could suffocate under high indebtedness.
Dr. Eric Osei-Assibey says allocations in the recently approved budget for the first quarter of 2017 shows interest payments takes a chunk of government revenue, a situation he says pushes the economy into further distress. He raised fears a second John Mahama-led administration or the successive government may face an uphill task fixing the economy.
The GH¢10.9 billion approved by Parliament last week is expected to finance “critical government expenditure” in the first quarter of 2017.
Finance Minister, Seth Terkper, made the request to the Finance Committee of Parliament in line with Article 180 of the 1992 Constitution and Section 23 of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921).
The Article states that “Where it appears to the President that the Appropriation Act in respect of any financial year will not come into operation by the beginning of that financial year, he may, with the prior approval of Parliament by a resolution, authorize the withdrawal of moneys from the Consolidated Fund for the purpose of meeting expenditure necessary to carry on the services of Government in respect of the period expiring three months from the beginning of the financial year or on the coming into operation of the Act whichever is earlier.”
The Act is usually activated where there is a likelihood for a change of government.
Some GH¢1.8 billion has been earmarked for interest payments; grants to other government agencies will cost GH¢2.3 billion, while compensation and salaries to government employees take up GH¢3.8 billion.

Speaking on PM Express on the Joy News channel (Multi TV) on Tuesday, Dr. Osei-Assibey said he had hoped that government cuts down on its expenditure, especially when revenue figures did not match spending.
“Knowing that you are not really earning more, the economy is really not expanding, you do not embark on expenditures that do not have a direct bearing on productive sectors of the economy otherwise you worsen the situation,” he said.
He said the rate at which the country was borrowing, a high inflation could be triggered with serious repercussion on all the other macroeconomic figures and businesses.
“Like we are paying about 10 billion cedis this year alone, that is about 30% of the total expenditure. So if you are paying about 30% on debt servicing and you are paying about 40% for salaries and wages then how much is left for capital expenditure? That is where this economy finds itself now,” he laments.
He advised that if the economy continues to be run like that, an expansion would be severely stifled.
“It wasn’t surprising that the IMF came out last time to revised our growth projection for the year from about 4% to 3.5% this year, which is the one of the lowest we have recorded in many years,” he said.

Mahama oblivious of cause of Mills' death – Allotey Jacobs

Allotey Jacobs
The Central regional Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Allotey Jacobs says President John Dramani Mahama was oblivious of late President John Atta Mills’ deteriorating health leading to the latter's demise.

According to him, only four people including him knew about late President Mills’ ill health. The cause of the untimely demise of President Mills in 2012 has been a mystery, as Ghanaians crave for answers.

Posters demanding answers regarding the death of the late president emerged in some areas in Cape Coast, the Central regional capital during the NDC campaign launch in that region on Sunday.

The posters were sighted at places such as Pedu junction, Abura, Adisadel, Moree barrier, Aggrey Memorial SHS, Cape Coast-Takoradi highway and around new the Cape Coast stadium, the venue for the campaign launch. It was, however, not clear who were behind the posters.

Reacting to demands of the said posters on Accra-based Neat FM's ‘Ghana Montie’ show, Mr. Jacobs explained that he together with three others knew the cause of President Mills’ death.

“…Let me confirm this,” he told the show host Akwasi Aboagye “we are just four people who know about Professor Mills sickness. His two siblings [Dr Cadman Atta Mills and Sammy Atta Mills], myself, and his long time bodyguard, Mr. ASP Adadei. Prof. Mills was dear to our hearts; he shared his frustration, sickness and development with us [the four].”

According to him, President Mahama has no knowledge of his boss’ failing health and that “People don’t know about this so they just get up and malign innocent people in this country.”

He asked: “…What at all has President Mahama done? What sin has he committed? Just because God has anointed him to be president?”

He said those demanding answers as to the cause of President Mills’ death “are just hurting the family [Mills family]. The man is dead and gone. Curse will be upon those behind this [he accused the NPP]. Death will run through their camp.”
